Over the past year, Yai has been part of our SAFE Achievement Coaching project at Abraham Moss School, which encourages young people to open up about their experiences and realise their potential through both individual and group sessions.

At the beginning of the programme, Yai was struggling to engage with school as she felt like she didn’t have anyone she could trust. Yai had been involved in multiple fights as well as ongoing issues with teachers, and she believed that the only way to resolve her issues was through violence.

Throughout her time on the programme, Yai has showed true determination, strength and confidence. Through exploration of her identity, community and safety in 1-1 sessions with Youth Worker Frankie, Yai came to understand the importance of self-exploration as well as having someone to trust by her side.

While taking part in Achievement Coaching sessions, Yai has been described as the mother of the group, always taking care of others, but she said that this programme has taught her the importance of self-care, and that she is number 1.
