Helping Greater Manchester Charities Understand Their Energy Efficiency
Groundwork’s team of Sustainable Business Consultants have been supporting charities and community organisations in Greater Manchester understand their energy use and paths towards decarbonisation as part of the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Sustainability Consultants have undertaken independent energy assessments for 5 charities in Greater Manchester; Wigan Workshop CIC, St Peter’s Pavillion, Deeplish Community Centre, Greenacres Community Centre and Leigh Works.
Visiting each charity building, Groundwork’s consultants undertook a comprehensive evaluation of the charities building and energy usage. They collected data from bills and reviewed the existing infrastructure in place to understand efficiencies and inefficiencies. From here were able to provide recommendations on the best suited low-carbon technologies and the estimated cost and carbon savings they would bring.
Measures recommended included:
- Solar PV
- LED lighting (on a sensor system)
- Updated insulation
- Double glazing windows
- Heat pumps
If all the suggested measures were introduced, across the 5 charities there would be a potential carbon savings of 117.9 Co2e and over £75,000 annual savings.
