Green Skills is the shorter of our employment and skills courses. It is a motivational project that is often a final stepping stone into employment and offers a taster of the construction and landscaping industries.

Course structure

Green Skills is a three to six week course for people aged 19 to 65. Small groups of 10-15 learners, supervised by qualified Groundwork staff, carry out a practical landscape improvement project, and typically work towards either a CSCS card or units towards a Level 1 City & Guilds qualification in Land Based Studies, Practical Horticulture or Employability Skills and Personal Development.

Green Skills can also include CV writing and training on interview skills, culminating in a mock interview conducted by local employers.

Professional project results and local community benefits

The landscape improvement projects benefit the local community on a site that is used by local residents. Work includes creation of raised planting beds, minor fencing and surfacing works, and clearance of vegetation and of small structures.
