Groundwork is seeking a new Chair

Help us change places and change lives

Groundwork is a national federated charity building better, greener lives in the places that need it most. We have been working for more than three decades to improve people’s prospects, create better places and promote greener living and working. Last year we delivered more than 4,000 projects to a value of more than £80 million.

June Campbell,
Groundwork Board Member
"Being a Trustee at Groundwork is a very rewarding experience. Every day I see the challenges that people face in communities near me, so seeing the work Groundwork does to help someone get their first qualification or transform their neighbourhood for the better is a great feeling.

This role is my way of using my skills and contacts to make a difference to communities across the UK.

I’d recommend it to anyone."

We have just agreed an ambitious five-year strategy and now have the opportunity to recruit a new Chair to drive this forward. Our Chair will help us build our profile and reputation, establish new partnerships and improve our business so that we can deliver greater impact on the ground.

Candidates will have Board experience and a knowledge of the changing public and private funding and policy environments in which Groundwork operates. Excellent networking, negotiation and stakeholder management skills are required but above all we are seeking someone with the energy, passion and creativity to take this unique and dynamic organisation to the next stage in its development.

The role is voluntary with expenses.

More information is available in this document.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a short covering letter demonstrating how they meet the requirements of the role together with their CV to Eileen Henderson at
