Hertford community goes Hornbeam planting!

As part of the Hartham Common play area redesign, residents from Hertford got together to plant hornbeams.

The community planting day at Hartham Common saw the local community come together to plant a hornbeam hedge between the playground and the road at Hartham Play Area to provide privacy, screening and a green backdrop to the play area.

Groundwork East worked with East Herts Council and the Hertford Play Alliance to publicise the event via emails to local community groups, facebook posts and twitter. The turnout exceeded  expectation, given that the week before had been really bad weather and the event was in February. Around 150 local residents turned up to help and many of these were young children who had never planted anything before.
