City and Guilds Foundation

Groundwork has partnered with the City & Guilds Foundation to launch a new employability programme aimed at helping offenders thrive in a growing market for ‘green skills’.

The programme will target resettlement prisons to deliver a mix of practical, outdoor, group learning and classroom-based activities with a focus on carbon literacy, construction and land management skills. Groundwork will work with a range of employers to provide work placements and pathways into employment.

The Fund is the first major initiative of the City & Guilds Foundation’s new Future Skills Commission for Prisons, which is seeking to transform how meaningful workplace training and not just basic skills courses can be given to offenders inside prisons, and how ex-offenders are not forgotten about afterwards but given continued support into employment.

The programme will be run in Peterborough and Greater Manchester and will be delivered by local Groundwork Trusts.
