Welwyn Garden City 2020

Groundwork is helping Welwyn Garden City (WGC) to mark its centenary year.

Why is the project being run?

WGC turns 100 in 2020 and the centenary foundation has asked Groundwork to help schools across the city mark the anniversary.

It is designed to celebrate and commemorate 100 years of the city and engage school pupils in the history and geological future of the city.

What does the project include?

Throughout 2019 and into 2020, Groundwork will be running two different projects in schools:

  • Bulb and tree planting – this will see pupils plant new trees in their school grounds and 100 bulbs that will be ready to flower in 2020.
  • EQUAL – an applied science programme to create an evidence base of the environmental condition of WGC during its centenary year.
