The Pembury Loop is Hackney’s own community re-use hub. Working with Peabody who manage the Pembury estate, we have set up this re-use hub to collect, repair, restore and sell unique, lovingly restored and reasonably priced furniture. We also offer training, employment and volunteering opportunities for residents in furniture restoration.
What’s happening at The Pembury Loop?
At The Loop, we work to turn waste into a force for good. Rather than leave unwanted furniture and appliances outside to be collected as waste and likely to end up in landfill sites, local residents can donate their items to The Loop. We offer free doorstep collection for residents, then repair, restore or upcycle them in our workshop, before selling them on at affordable prices. All the money raised from sales is reinvested in the workshop and in furniture restoration training for residents.
Visit us:
The Pembury Loop is located in large undercover carpark which was redundant for years prior to us reclaiming it. It’s home to our workshop and showroom and a 5 minutes walk from Hackney Downs and Hackney Central stations. In our showroom you’ll find unique, lovingly restored and reasonably priced furniture.

Electrical Reuse
In addition to furniture, we may accept donations of small electrical items like kettles and toasters at The Loop. We’ll pass them to our sister project REWORK, where they will be tested and fixed if we can and recycled them if we can’t. We can collect large electrical appliances from Hackney residents as well e.g. fridges, cookers, microwaves, washing machines and dishwashers if they are clean, disconnected, less than 10 years old and in a decent condition. Contact pembury.reuse@groundwork.org.uk – 07506 741 929 to book a collection of your electrical goods.
If we advise you that your items are unsuitable for repair or reuse please contact Hackney’s bulky waste collection service.
The Pembury Loop is supported by Peabody, Hackney Council, Children in Need, the EU’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the UK Integrated Communities Innovation Fund.
