Groundwork North Wales - supporting Big Energy Saving Week with a week of great events

Once again, Groundwork North Wales is partnering with Citizens Advice and other organisations

to put on events across our region throughout Big Energy Saving Week starting on Monday 20 January 2020 with the aim to encourage residents to find out how to save money on their energy bills.

Groundwork North Wales is supporting the campaign and running a series of events and workshops throughout the week to help local people save energy, money and to reduce the effects of climate change.  Our campaign will raise awareness of how simple changes such as switching energy supplier or tariff, accessing discounts or grants, and making homes more energy-efficient can make a  really big  difference

Jo Woodward Senior Coordinator for Energy with Groundwork North Wales is urging everyone to ‘Use your power to make a big difference’

‘After the success of last year’s campaign, which saw us take a tour of the area bringing advice and guidance on a range of topics into the community, we are delighted to be involved in Big Energy Saving Week for 2020. We will be urging everyone to ‘Use your power to make a big difference’ assisting them in shopping around to make keeping warm and healthy at home more affordable this winter.’

A variety of events will take place during the week, starting with a launch event on Monday 20th January. This will be an interactive information event for partners and front line workers helping 3rd sector organisations help their clients and the people they support to save money on their energy bills. Finishing with a “Satisfying Slow Soups & Stews Event” demonstration event on Friday 24th January.

Events throughout the week are as follows;

Tuesday 21st January there will be a drop-in event for Plas Madoc residents at the Opportunity Centre.

Wednesday 22nd January sees an event for  Flying Start families in Caia Park followed by an afternoon drop-in session for local residents and tenants at the Caia Park Partnership Hub.

Thursday  23rd January in the morning we are running our Thrifty Thursday session in the morning at The Enterprise Hub,  Wrexham.  Thrifty Thursday is aimed at 16 – 24-year-olds who are living independently and want to save money. This friendly informal workshop helps young people to be more in control of their money, improve confidence and learn new skills!  The event can be booked via our @GwkNorth Wales

There is an open event in the afternoon at The Enterprise Hub in Wrexham town centre for anyone to drop in with their energy bills and get some advice.

Friday 24th January we round the week off with our  Satisfying Slow Soups & Stews Event.  We will be demonstrating how to make delicious hot dishes that are both cheap and easy to make. There will be an opportunity to taste the results. Booking is essential for this event which takes place at the Venue in the Park at Alyn Waters Country Park.
