Kickstart is a new £2bn programme which will create hundreds and thousands of new jobs in England, Wales and Scotland.   The scheme provides access to high quality work placements giving young people an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to secure future employment.  The scheme is open to young people aged 16 to 24 who are currently on Universal Credit.  Funding is available for employers so they can offer a work placement for 25 hours a week at national minimum wage.

Groundwork is pleased to be part of a national programme providing bespoke training to all young people that access our programme.  You will have the opportunity to develop transferable skills and gain value work experience within our organisation.

The Government has committed £2 billion to the new Kickstart Scheme which has been designed to create thousands of paid 6-month work placements.  Groundwork is pleased to be part of this scheme and as a federation will provide placement opportunities to over 200 young people across the country.

Groundwork CLM is an approved Gateway Provider which offers support to both employers and young people.  We are looking for likeminded employers who want to create a pipeline of future employees and offer meaningful and quality placements for young people in the local area.  As an organisation we pride ourselves on having a team who are professional, approachable and friendly with the ability to develop relationships quickly and effectively. Our specialist teams have significant experience in working with young people aged 16-24 years old through the delivery of our personal development programmes. They are qualified in Information Advice and Guidance, Safeguarding, Mental Health and Health and Safety in the Workplace. They have a wide range of expertise and knowledge to draw upon to help young people make the transition into employment. We will work with you to complete DWP requirements and liaise with local Jobcentres to promote the roles you are wanting to offer a young person.   We will provide ongoing support throughout the 6-month period to ensure the scheme is a success. If you’re up to the age of 24 and are claiming Universal Credit, Groundwork’s Kickstart placements can help you into careers that help protect the environment, tackle climate change, and support local communities.

You’ll get paid a real wage, gain valuable experience and we will give you all the training and support you need to succeed.

Current opportunities:

Project Assistant (At The Grange)
At The Grange is a community centre at Grange Park in Blackpool.  It’s one of Groundwork’s flagship programmes and provides an opportunity for local residents to learn new skills and improve their health and wellbeing. The centre has shops, a library, a cafe, a community farm and a theatre. There is also a gallery and meeting rooms that are available for hire.  Groundwork manages the centre and plays a key role in co-ordinating and organising events, sessions and classes for people of all ages and abilities.  This new and exciting role is to provide administration support for the Green Doctor and Community Support Worker Projects.   It will be a very practical and hands on role working as part of a small team at the Grange.

Youth Worker (At The Grange)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the Grange to expand and develop the current youth offer.  This will include co-ordinating and delivering activities that promote behaviour change, positive health and wellbeing, personal development skills and improve community inclusion. This role will help to support the delivery of a range of activities to young people within the Centre including those focused on art, sport and social inclusion.

Digital Media Officer (Wigan / working from home)
We have an exciting opportunity to be part of our communications team. As Digital Communications Assistant you will help shape the organisation’s messages, showcase its activity and engage with stakeholders through social media, websites, blogs, video, photography and e-marketing. You’ll  be encouraged to look for new digital communication opportunities and work creatively as part of the team to produce fresh, innovative content that can be used across digital platforms to raise our profile and increase awareness and support for the work we do.  We are looking for someone with excellent written and spoken communication skills who enjoys communicating through digital channels. Strong IT skills are essential.

Kickstart Administration Assistant (Wigan)
Groundwork CLM (Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside) is looking for an individual with strong communication and organisational skills to work with the Employment and Skills team with the administration aspects of the Kickstart including supporting the recruitment and training aspects.  The Administration Assistant will work closely with the Contracts and Performance Manager providing support to colleagues within the department, ensuring the smooth running of the adminstration functions related to the Kickstart programme. 

Conservation Assistant- Blackpool

The Conservation Trainee will be working on North Blackpool Pond Trail, carrying out conservation tasks such as pond, woodland and grassland management, creating wildlife habitats and conducting wildlife surveys. The work will include infrastructure maintenance and footpath improvements. There will also be opportunities to work on a tree planting programme across Blackpool.

Community Garden Trainee (Blackpool)

The Community Garden Trainee will support the work of Grow Blackpool transforming green spaces on Grange Park, working at the Community Farm behind the @Grange Community Centre and a number of new community gardens and pocket parks within the estate. The role includes learning about horticulture and site maintenance for example growing fruit and vegetables and improving conservation in the area.

Heritage Team Trainee

The successful applicant will work as part of our Heritage Projects Team at Rivington.  The Team manage Rivington Terraced Gardens and elements of work within Lever park.  Both areas are historically important and contain many Grade II listed Features. The role predominately consists of practical, outdoor conservation tasks and working with volunteers, schools and corporate groups as well as interacting with members of the public.  Tasks will be varied but be in their majority outdoors on site and will include supporting the delivery of a range of public events, including the Rivington Music Festival, scheduled to take place in July.
