Chair of Board and Trustees

Groundwork South & North Tyneside (GWSaNT) is part of a federation of Groundwork Trusts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have worked in the heart of communities in South Tyneside since 1991 and expanded into North Tyneside in 2018. We have over twenty years’ experience of delivering bespoke projects that use the environment as a catalyst for building a more sustainable future.

Groundwork helps people and organisations make changes in order to create better neighbourhoods, build skills and job prospects and live and work in a greener way. We know that the important issues are all connected – so our work can’t easily be placed in boxes marked ‘environmental issues’, ‘regeneration’, ’employment’ or ‘health’. We create projects and services that benefit both people and the wider environment, and each year we deliver hundreds of projects helping to improve the quality of peoples’ lives, their prospects and potential and the places where they live, work and play.

We work towards a vision – of a society of sustainable communities which are vibrant, healthy and safe, which respect the local and global environment and where individuals and enterprise prosper. Creating those sustainable communities means developing initiatives which cut across economics, social issues and the environment. Our work is diverse, but all of it helps to achieve our vision.

Over the last two years, we have grown our portfolio of activities including the management of Jarrow Hall Anglo Saxon Farm & Bede Museum, expansion of our SEN College and extending our geographical scope to include North Tyneside

Therefore, the existing and long standing Trustees of Groundwork SaNT are looking to replace our recently retired Chair and expand the Board by an additional three people.

We are looking for individuals with one of the following skills, specialisms or experience:

  1. Chair of Board to support the strategic direction and provide management oversight to the Chief Executive Officer.
  2. Cultural / Visitor Services Management to support our community and family work at Jarrow Hall.
  3. Heritage and Cultural Strategy to support our master plan at Jarrow Hall
  4. Special Educational Needs or Further Education to support our Route 2 Work College.
