Community Project Officer

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a play work, early years, school or other educational background to join our friendly Let’s Play team.

The ideal candidate would have experience of working with children aged 6-12 years and will be aware of how to deliver outdoor/indoor play activities that are age-appropriate and are safe, creative and engaging. They will also have knowledge of how to plan and develop these free play sessions. This job role will involve completing project monitoring and evaluation data; ensuring all paperwork is kept up to date, inputted accurately, in a timely manner, and to the standard required by funders and stakeholders. Also desirable is experience of working with other community and voluntary organisations and developing partnerships.

This role will involve regular evenings and occasional weekend work and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About Let’s Play

Since 2017 the Let’s Play team at Groundwork West Midlands has been delivering play activities to children in Sandwell, as part of the Go Play Sandwell project funded by Sandwell Council. Let’s Play is aimed at children aged 6-12 years old (up to 16 with additional needs) and all sessions are free to access, open to all and take place after-school and throughout school holidays. We currently deliver nine play sessions a week. Sessions are child led, and typically comprise a range of activities including:

  • Creative activities (weaving, clay work, kite making)
  • Nature based activities (mini beast hunts, tree identification, making bird feeders)
  • Formal team games (football, rounders)
  • Informal team games (relay races, parachute games)
  • Exploratory games (scavenger hunts)

We also provide a variety of play equipment to allow children and young people to develop their own independence through play.

  • As well as offer a range of high quality play sessions, Let’s Play also aims to:
  • Enhance children’s learning and self-confidence
  • Allow parents/carers to better integrate into the local community
  • Develop partnerships amongst key local organisations/stakeholders.

An Enhanced DBS check will be required prior to commencement in post.  No agencies please.
