Are you passionate about your community’s health and wellbeing?

Groundwork London and Barnet Together are seeking motivated individuals with a local understanding of Barnet communities to become Health Ambassadors.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted some groups disproportionately and increased health inequalities. Whilst the vaccine programme has been largely successful both nationally and locally, there remain disparities in uptake between communities across the London Borough of Barnet. The aim of Barnet Health Ambassadors is to build connectivity and trust in the communities where vaccine uptake is low, to challenge and alleviate those inequalities and to empower individuals to protect themselves, their families and their networks.

We are recruiting Health Ambassadors to specifically work with the following target communities:

  • Wards with high deprivation and low vaccine uptake – Golders Green, Hendon, Childs Hill, North Colindale, South Colindale, Burnt Oak, West Hendon, Cricklewood
  • Faith Groups, including Haredi and Evangelical Christian
  • Homeless population
  • Pregnant women
  • Residents with serious mental illness
  • Residents with learning disabilities and their carers

The Health Ambassador is a key role and will:

  • Connect with and work with people in local communities who have not yet been vaccinated to increase vaccine uptake
  • Deliver bespoke practical solutions which address concerns and practical barriers to accessing vaccines (both Covid-19 and more established programmes) amongst people in local communities where uptake is low
  • Support communities to increase their understanding of how they can prevent ill health and manage wider health conditions (this may include registering them with a GP, supporting them to get a health check etc.)
  • Provide insight to local partners about barriers to health-improving interventions

Please contact us if you have:

  • Knowledge of the Barnet locality and one or more of the targeted communities above
  • Awareness of COVID-19 health inequalities and the impact this has on targeted communities you wish to work with
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in group and one-to-one settings
  • Experience working with Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise organisations in Barnet
  • Design of engagement events and activities within targeted communities

In Barnet, Groundwork London is a proud partner of Barnet Together, an award-winning partnership between Inclusion Barnet, Volunteering Barnet, groundwork and the Young Barnet Foundation, providing vital resources and advice for Barnet’s Community, Voluntary, Faith and Social Enterprise sector and deliver more borough-wide services and opportunities, based on real partnership and active collaboration.

Across the capital, Groundwork London works with communities to transform their lives and the places they live. We have been at the forefront of social and environmental regeneration in London for over 25 years, and today we have a simple mission: to create better places, improve people’s prospects, and promote greener living and working.
