National Citizen Service Programme Manager

Groundwork London is a leading social and environmental regeneration charity delivering over 500 projects each year, many of which support young people to achieve their goals, amplify their voice and get involved in volunteering and social action.

From 2020, Groundwork will become the largest provider in London of the National Citizen Service (NCS) and support 4500 16 and 17-year-olds to participate. The programme brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility.

NCS encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication. The programme includes two residential experiences together with time working in the participants local communities designing and delivering innovative social action project of their choice.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 30 core staff and up to 600 seasonal staff to deliver NCS to the highest standards of quality and safety. You will ensure the programme is delivered on time and to budget whilst meeting contractual targets.

You will have strategic vision and have demonstrable experience in coordinating and motivating a multi skilled team to work together to create the best possible experience for young people. With an excellent head for numbers you’ll manage complex reporting requirements.

You will also need excellent interpersonal skills in order to create and develop Groundwork’s relationships with wider stakeholders, including the NCS Trust.

An excellent knowledge of youth programmes, particularly incorporating residential experiences and social action projects would be an advantage.
