Ranger – Twywell Hills and Dales Nature Reserve

Groundwork Northamptonshire is looking for a passionate, organised and dedicated individual to join our team as Ranger at Twywell Hills and Dales nature reserve, for whom Groundwork Northamptonshire are the managing agent.

With guidance and support from our wider team, you will be responsible for the habitat management of the site, comprised mostly of grass and scrubland, ensuring continued habitat restoration and improvement. This is a predominantly hands-on role requiring a sound knowledge of a wide range of habitat management techniques and species identification skills.

You will be confident in lone working and prepared to work in all weathers. You will be experienced and competent in the use of small tools and machinery, including brushcutters / clearing saws. A small herd of cattle are used for habitat grazing, and with assistance from a herdsman, some cattle management is required.

As part of the role, you will be confident in engaging directly with the local community and visitors to the site, acting as the public representative for Twywell Hills and Dales, and Groundwork Northamptonshire.

You will be a strong communicator, working with our Project Manager and external partnerships to develop a range of activities and events. You will support and work alongside our volunteers, sharing with them your knowledge, passion and commitment to the programme.

You will be organised with administrative tasks, able to support budget management, complete reports and risk assessments.

The most important factors in this role are your commitment to the synergy of nature and communities, and the passion to deliver substantial boots-on-the-ground habitat site management.

  • Salary: £14,300 (£21,450 pro-rata)
  • Part-time, 25 hours
