At Groundwork we’ve been supporting young people in London for over 30 years and have seen first hand the huge potential they have. We believe every young person, no matter what their background or ability can achieve, and that belief is at the heart of the National Citizen Service (NCS).
What is NCS?
NCS is open to 16 and 17 year-olds across England and Northern Ireland. The two to four week programme, which takes place in school holidays, includes outdoor team-building exercises, a residential for participants to learn ‘life skills’, a community-based social action project and an end of programme celebration event.
The programmes are designed to support young people from all backgrounds to challenge themselves, experience new activities, learn new skills, grow in confidence and ultimately feel good about their futures. It’s also a lot of fun and a great opportunity to get to know a bunch of other young people.
It costs just £50 or less to take part in NCS and bursaries are available on a case by case basis. Support is also provided for young people with additional needs. Find out more about the summer 2020 NCS programmes.
I loved all the teamwork and the opportunity to make new friends and cook for ourselves during the second week, that was a laugh.
