Donate NOW to support the Newbiggin Beach Garden – a NEW community space for everyone!
Groundwork North East in partnership with the people of Newbiggin, local young people, the landowners Newbiggin Co-op and other local partners are currently fundraising to create Newbiggin Beach Garden in front of the Newbiggin town heritage mural. Your generosity will greatly help to transform the existing area of featureless grass into a Beach Garden that tells the story of the epic voyage in 2012 when three local young people circumnavigated the UK anticlockwise in kayaks. This will be celebrated with a plaque and form a focal point for this beautiful garden that will connect local people to nature and their heritage.
The site is located in front of the heritage mural painted by local young people with the support of Groundwork next to the promenade and behind the Coop. Having young people involved in the design and decision-making process for the Beach Garden will ignite interest and care for the site. It will represent strengthened partnerships, community interest and enjoyment.
Dave Wilding, Operations Manager of the Co-op in Newbiggin commented “We are fully in favour of supporting community initiatives; the proposed garden will act as a catalyst to generate new things that young people can be proud to be part of and that will benefit local people.”
Newbiggin Beach Garden will give young people a lasting sense of responsibility for the environment and the community they live in as well as champion the efforts of what can be achieved when the community comes together to make an idea come to life.
