Eden Hill Peoples Centre

Background:

Groundwork have worked with Eden Hill Peoples Centre since 2017 – a thriving community hub. The current project is a three-year programme, where we work with local partners to build long-term resilience and sustainability of the centre. The centre offers safe space for the community to access a variety of support.

We offer a range of activities and support such as:

  • Money management
  • Youth provision
  • Minibus provision
  • Volunteer training
  • Advice/support to save energy and reduce bills

Eden Hill is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and is delivered in partnership with Horden & Peterlee Rugby Football Club and Eden Hill People’s Centre.

Impact:

We’re proud to work in such a thriving community with incredible volunteers, without whom the project would not be able to make such an incredible impact. Some of our impact to date includes:

  • Over 52 weeks we have served 4680 community members with low-cost food through the Bread and Butter Thing project
  • Local government support the project to support families on low income, 267 children received full uniform to return to school
  • 8 School Summer holiday days out such as; Beach day & Litter Picking, Hamsterley Forest trip, Sports Day- With up to 110 children participating in each event
  • Health and wellbeing walks, with 11-12 participants every week
  • 70-85 participants weekly, coming along to our Sausage Butty & Cuppa morning, with donations to go towards other developments in the centre.

Some of the outcomes we have achieved so far:

  • Local residents feel less isolated through being involved in new social networks
  • Improved access, to a range of existing, and new community services, activities and events by local residents, leading to improved wellbeing.
  • People on low incomes have experienced reduced stress and anxiety, as a result of financial advice leading to improved well-being and able to access facilities.
  • Young people involved with organised and meaningful activities.

Eden Hill Peoples Centre has made some positive changes to the area, and continues to support local people.
