The Silver Connections course is designed to increase the confidence of Hackney residents aged over 50, learning how to avoid scams and using smart phone technology to find out about local events and attractions. Having friends to turn to and places to visit can be a huge source of support for people who may otherwise be spending a lot of time on their own. Silver connections ensures that isn’t the case bringing people together to  socialise and learn some new skills.

Since COVID19, we have been running our course on Zoom and adapted it to help participants learn ways to connect with other digitally.

Throughout the course, participants are advised on how to avoid scams and taught how to get the most out of their phones, more than simply making phone calls. Sessions cover learning shortcuts to make using a phone easier, researching on a phone, using YouTube to problem solve, discovering and making the most of apps such as Google Maps and WhatsApp.

Silver Connections is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and is part of Connect Hackney, a project dedicated to the wellbeing of Hackney residents over 50. The course is run on an on-going basis and is open to residents of Hackney who are over 50.

Our next course is starting in September via Zoom and will be running every week for 6 weeks. We offer telephone support to participants who require support setting up Zoom on their device, ready for the first group session.
