The Good Store on South Molton Street is closed for relocation but you can still shop some collections online and keep updated via www.thegoodstore.uk

“Our expertise in environmental and community regeneration places us in a prime position to deliver The Good Store, to connect people with opportunities to shop more sustainability and find a wide range of options available to them as well.

The Good Store is a great celebration for Groundwork to showcase our role in sustainable programme delivery and offer our own retail programmes. The Good Store provides a platform for innovative products and services to rethink the role of the high street, while benefiting the charitable projects we deliver across our communities.” – Lindy Kelly, ED.

The Good Store – the sustainable department store – is a new charity retail initiative, but not as you know it! The original space on South Molton Street, near Bond Street tube station, offered everyone the initial insight into The Good Store and sustainable choices on the high street with various routes into sustainability, from products and services, to education and events. And it all started from the expertise and knowledge of those within Groundwork London.

With The Good Store we continue to explore what sustainability means on the high street to help all people to live more sustainably. We have innovative brands across the industry working with us, including charities, social enterprises, start-ups and established brands. The brands carefully selected for their commitment to sustainability to help us offer a wide range of options no matter what is on their shopping list!

The Good Story

The Good Story behind our new and innovative initiative is that it is backed by an environmental and community charity All profits made by The Good Store will be put back into our local Groundwork projects to change places and lives for good. These projects include those which hold a space of their own within The Good Store premises; one-of-a-kind furniture pieces from Groundwork’s The Looprefurbished white goods from Rework, as well as bikes from Westminster Wheels.

The unique and ever-evolving space has been brought together using sustainable materials and equipment borrowed, donated, repurposed and recycled. From its foundations to the feedback corner, Tell us @ The Good Store, The Good Store creates a shopping experience that is designed to meet everyone’s needs and wants within the world’s resources, from better product options to better opportunities for people.

Fiona Brenner, Strategic Development Manager at Groundwork London had this to say about the exciting and long-awaited venture:

We could see that people have a strong desire for more sustainable options but the onus sits with the individual to go out and find them. We wanted to bring together these choices to show the breadth and depth of the developing sustainable market and traditional attitudes to reuse and repair in a way that creates an easy and enjoyable shopping experience. All profits will support our social reuse programmes, from which The Good Store was created, so that waste can be brought back to life by our teams and items provided to those who need them.”

The Product Offering

From clothes and accessories to toys, tech and furniture, we’re joined by a catalogue of brands who share our endeavour; to develop the sustainability market together. We have worked with collections including furniture from Jay Blades MBE’s Jay&Co, bags made from broken bouncy castles from Wyatt and Jack, second-hand designer clothes from charity Traid, beauty products made from coffee grounds from Upcircle, and more.

The Good Store held its first official event on Wednesday 10th of August. The team were joined by Clean Power and New Westend Company to kick off the #TOGETHERBAND campaign with Togetherband to promote positive climate action. The campaign has begun with vibrant artwork by Morag Myerscough spanning Oxford Street with the hope to promote action towards a low carbon future.

This campaigns mission is synonymous with the aims of The Good Store, and we were delighted to host the campaign launch in the original space of No27 South Molton Street. Speeches, music by  and networking saw the inspiring organisations come together in a shared celebration towards positive change! The campaign continued across Oxford Street after the launch event.

The Good Store officially launched during Plastic Free July, setting a positive and proactive tone in the environmental sector for the months ahead. The Good Store’s following is growing as people choose to live more sustainable lifestyles, and they are leading the way in providing options for all.

Partners

We have received lots of support from our partners across London, including Mayor of London, Westminster Council, New West End Company and Grosvenor Estates. Joanna Lea, Retail Director, Grosvenor, talks about their position as a supportive partner of the store in one of their core central locations:

The Good Store is an exciting retail concept providing a route to market for high quality sustainable products, improving London’s circular economy and supporting social enterprises.

Our work as a property owner is underpinned by partnerships and we are proud to be working alongside Groundwork to deliver such a well-needed and timely retail offering in our Mayfair neighbourhood. It is essential that we support social enterprises like these, which produce sustainable products and are contributing to a wider social and environmental goal. The Good Store represents an integral part of the future of retail.”
