Southway Housing

In South Manchester Groundwork Greater Manchester are consulting with residents and Southway Housing Trust to agree ways in which nature-based solutions could be added to 11 open space sites.

Our plan to transform these green spaces is to introduce wildlife friendly planting, such as trees, native hedges and wildflower meadows. This will allow the lawns to soak up more water and slow down the flow of water going into the drainage systems during storms. It will also create a richer diversity of food for birds, bees and insects to feed on and provide a nice outdoor area for the residents on their doorstep.

These sites we are working at include:

  • Kingsway Crescent
  • Horwood Crescent
  • Green End Road
  • Firethorn Avenue
  • Moorcroft Drive
  • Barcicroft Road
  • Land End Road
  • Westcroft Road
  • Broadlea Road
  • Wintermans Road

Norfolk Avenue Tiny Forest

On Norfolk Avenue, our teams will be working with local residents and One Manchester to implement nature-based solutions on this urban greenspace. This will include the exciting addition of creating a tiny forest by planting native trees and hedgerows, which will stop the lawn area from becoming boggy after bad weather.

Our team will be consulting with residents in the area over the summer to develop the initial concept into a plan that will be delivered later this year. If you are a resident and have thoughts and ideas on this space please contact them using the link below:
