Big global issues – the economy, the environment – have a big local impact. We work across the UK helping communities find practical solutions to the challenges they face.
Tyne & Wear is a relatively new Groundwork operational area and is made up of the distinct local authority areas of Sunderland, Gateshead and North Tyneside. In a short space of time a small team and programme has grown to be a major force in local community regeneration.
In 2008 we started delivering projects from our East Durham base in Easington. By 2010 we had developed an exciting programme of projects and acquired a new local office at 6 Norfolk Street in Sunderland Town Centre. Through a Community Asset Transfer with Gateshead Council we have recently acquired a new Gateshead office at Lobley Hill Community Centre and we also manage the nearby Gateshead Central Nursery on a short term lease.
We work closely with a wide range of partners including our three local authorities, local businesses, schools, colleges and community groups. Traditionally we have been most active in the City of Sunderland office but we are developing our role in Gateshead and North Tyneside. With the recent acquisition of our Gateshead base and securing new work in North Tyneside we hope to help as many communities as we possibly can.
We deliver a range of contracts and services for Public Health, The Land Trust and Family and Community Learning. We work closely with the private sector providing services to meet their Corporate Social Responsibility aspirations. We are have been a key partner on local initiatives such as Target:Wellbeing and Communities Living Sustainably. We deliver many innovative Groundwork programmes such as Green Doctor and GreenStart. We also deliver many traditional initiatives such as improving and creating allotments, school yards and green spaces.
