Hundreds attend the London Upcycling Show 2019

In 2018, over 21 million small items of furniture were thrown away in the UK. To celebrate the craft of upcycling, reuse and repair, North London Waste Authority and Groundwork London hosted over 350 attendees at the 4th annual London Upcycling Show on 16 November 2019 at Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

DIY experts and TV presenters Tommy Walsh and Georgina Burnett judged the Upcycling Competition, and upcyclers from across North London presented their creations made from donated furniture.

Every year the standard is higher… So fantastic to see all the enthusiasm there is for Upcycling. So many talented and creative people, having put so many hours into their projects – all winners in my eyes.

– Georgina Burnett

Attendees took part in workshops and some went head to head in challenges guided by the judges. The event was packed with innovative exhibitors and tasty food vendors.

The competition provided an opportunity for amateur upcyclers to upskill in craft and DIY and meet new people.

It’s a brilliant opportunity to learn more about upcycling and how to learn new skills. I would advise future competitors to embrace the process, have fun and think of ways to dress up the piece on the day.
