Volunteers’ Week 2020
At Groundwork London, we have the opportunity to work with thousands of devoted volunteers through our NCVO-accredited volunteering programmes in Westminster, Kingston, Waltham Forest and Barnet.
Since March 26th over 9,000 volunteers have registered across our programmes. Over the past few months, we’ve been working with our local authority partners to mobilise volunteer response hubs across the capital, which were set up to coordinate volunteers offering their support in light of Covid-19.
This means we’ve also seen first-hand the breathtaking voluntary response to the virus and its consequences. We’ve been humbled by the sheer number of Londoners who have offered to give up their time to support their communities in vital ways, from packing food parcels, to befriending and delivery driving.
Executive Director Lindy Kelly said:
I started my career as a Groundwork volunteer and I haven’t looked back. Volunteering is an excellent way to gain new skills, meet new people and give back. Now more than ever I want to celebrate the difference that each and every one of you is making to the lives of the most vulnerable members of your communities. Wishing you a rewarding volunteering journey.
We are committed to deploying as many volunteers as possible as safely as possible, so sometimes we aren’t able to offer shifts to every volunteer who has registered. But every offer of assistance helps to make sure good work gets done effectively.
That’s why this Volunteers’ week, we want to say an extra HUGE thank you to all these amazing volunteers who are playing a crucial role in helping our communities get through this together.
We’ll be posting stories from our wonderful volunteers throughout the week (1st – 7th June) on Twitter.
