Young people pick-up Sandy town

Young people from Sandy took on a mission to make their town a cleaner place on Saturday 30 March 2019.

The group of young people is from Sandy Youth Club and part of Youth Central. The club is run by community charity Groundwork Luton & Bedfordshire, and Youth Central is run by Central Bedfordshire Council.

The young people discussed what they thought the key issues were in their town, and set themselves a mission to reduce the amount of litter in Sandy. The team set a date for the litter pick and designed posters to advertise it to the local community.

On the day they worked alongside members of the local community and Central Bedfordshire Council and collected an amazing 10 bin liners full of rubbish!

Holly Shreeves, Youth Worker for Groundwork at Sandy Youth Club said “It was a great success; the young people did a fantastic job of both promoting the event, and putting it into action on the day. They worked really hard and we shall do something similar again.”

Sandy Youth Club runs sessions every Monday and Wednesday, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
