This vibrant regional park, formed in 1965, spans from Rickmansworth in the north, to Staines upon Thames in the south- from Uxbridge in the east, to Slough in the west. Covering 43 square miles the landscape is a mix of bustling towns, green spaces and waterways, it’s the first taste of countryside immediately west of London and is a mosaic of farmland, woodland & water with 200 miles of rivers, canals and over 60 lakes.

We manage the Colne Valley Park Trust , advising the Board of Trustees on responses to planning applications within the Regional Park and managing a number of green spaces on behalf of the Trust and other partners. We actively develop and manage new initiatives, including project funding for a variety of improvements for people and wildlife in the Regional Park and the Colne Catchment Area Network whose work focuses on the rivers of the entire Colne Catchment.

The Colne Valley Regional Park is amongst the most pressurised parts of the Green Belt. The Green Belt is seen by the market as good development opportunity as there is a vacuum of policy addressing development pressures/needs’ on a landscape scale.
The Colne Valley Landscape Partnership
This was a large project ; £1.6m worth of National Lottery funding and a further £900k of local funding, It completed in 2023 and delivered a large number of improvements within the area please see our webpages for a summary https://www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/project/landscape-partnership/. The Landscape Partnership brought together specialist wildlife conservation organisations, local authorities, and regional water companies. Our collective mission which continues despite the end of the official project is to improve the habitats in the Park and the lives of local people, enabling them to connect with and access the regional park more often and feel the benefits first hand.
The Colne Catchment Action Network
We also host the Colne Catchment Action Network (Colne CAN) co-ordinating delivery of a wide variety of landscape management projects including habitat enhancements, weir adaptation to improve fish passage and tackling invasive species problems. As the Colne CAN progresses we will continue to build strong relationships to involve more communities, businesses and local organisations so that we get as many people as possible working to improve our waterbodies. We adopt the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA); an inclusive, civil society-led initiative that works in partnership to maximise the natural value of our river systems.
