The challenge is simple – walk 1 mile a day for 30 days!

By taking part and raising funds, you’ll be helping young children in areas of deprivation experience of joy of the great outdoors.

So many families face real barriers to outdoor play and access to nature, with some areas having 900 children per playground. You can help more children and families build their confidence with the outdoors.

Click the link below to set your JustGiving page up and start your challenge! Once you’ve signed up, our fantastic fundraising team will be in touch to send you your fundraising pack, where you will find all the information about the challenge, including our nature bingo card to take out on your walks.

Why this is important

At Groundwork, we believe all children deserve the chance to play, explore and thrive in safe outdoor spaces, no matter where they live.

Wellies in the Woods does just that – by bringing outdoor play and learning to young children and their families in communities in need of extra provision across the UK. Creating a safe space where families can connect, learn, and grow, together.

Through storybook-inspired sessions in local parks, woods and outdoor spaces, the programme helps children to build their confidence, improve early development and form a lasting connection and appreciation with nature, alongside improving literacy skills and encouraging reading.

You have the power to make this a reality for more children. Every penny raised goes towards giving children a better start in life.

  • £10 could purchase books and play equipment
  • £30 could purchase wellies or other outdoor protective clothing
  • £200 could sponsor a family to participate in Wellies in the Woods over eight sessions
  • £700 could help us to upskill 20 childcare professionals across the country to deliver sessions
  • £3,000 could allow 12 families to participate in a Wellies in the Woods eight-week course
