The Japanese Lake illuminated at the Rivington Festival of Light.

An iconic heritage site was transformed into a magical wonderland of illumination as Rivington Terraced Gardens hosted its fourth annual Festival of Light.

The event ran for 4 nights, with around 5,000 visitors enjoying a spectacular event,  set against the stunning backdrop of the Japanese Lake.

The lake and surrounding woodlands were bathed in vibrant colours, with an array of lantern and UV displays created by the volunteer team. Live music from Marc Winstanley filled the air, whilst lasers painted breath-taking patterns in the night sky. Visitors also had the opportunity to indulge in a delicious array of hot food, desserts and refreshing drinks provided by local vendors.

As if this wasn’t enough, those at the Festival on Thursday(October 10th) were also treated to a stunning display of the Northern Lights.

The positive feedback we’ve received has been overwhelming.

Briony Jolley, Groundwork’s Project Manager for Rivington Terraced Gardens said: “We are so grateful to all of our volunteers, staff and partners who have helped to make this year’s event such a huge success. The positive feedback we’ve received has been overwhelming. Many people who are long-time visitors by day have said that seeing the Gardens illuminated at night was a magical experience. We’d like to thank everyone who attended and supported this event. All four nights were sold out and the money raised through tickets sales will be used to help fund the ongoing care and maintenance of the Gardens.”
