Lesley at Grow Speke

Ever wonder what happens when a community comes together to create something truly special?

Meet Lesley

Lesley is one of Grow Speke’s incredible volunteers, whose dedication to protecting the local environment is truly inspiring. Lesley believes her love for gardening came from her dad and even though she was a little nervous about getting involved at first, she soon felt right at home. That’s because Grow Speke has a fantastic open-door policy, warmly welcoming everyone to join our growing community. It has also introduced her to people in her community she has never met before, despite living near to each other.

Something for Everyone

Grow Speke isn’t just about beautiful plants and amazing fresh produce, it’s a bustling hub of activity. We’ve got two polytunnels and tons of raised beds overflowing with fresh, healthy produce, all of which we share with the local community. But that’s not all! You’ll also find a fruit orchard, an outdoor gym, a tranquil pond, an apiary and bug hotels – all helping to create a rich and diverse ecosystem.

Horticulture Course

Lesley recently signed up to the Basic Horticulture course, which is run at Grow Speke by Myerscough College. This has introduced her to new people and taught her things she is now using in her own garden. She has recently put up some bug hotels and started planting things that support pollinators. She has even taken up beekeeping at Grow Speke.

Community and Connection

While gardening sessions are definitely a highlight, Grow Speke offers so much more. It hosts relaxed coffee catch-ups, calming meditation sessions, creative art and crafts classes and regular outdoor community events. It’s a place to connect, learn and grow together.
