Trinity

For many young people, taking the first step into an unfamiliar room can feel overwhelming. Trinity knows that feeling all too well. Struggling with confidence and unsure of what the future held, she nearly let fear hold her back. Instead, she took a chance and discovered friendships, opportunities and a belief in herself that she never thought possible.

Here is Trinity’s story in her own words ………….

If someone had told me a few months ago that I’d be feeling this confident, making friends and planning my future, I wouldn’t have believed them.

When my work coach first mentioned The King’s Trust Team programme in Leigh, I wasn’t interested. The idea of meeting new people completely stressed me out, and I almost talked myself out of going. On the first morning, I had to drag myself out of bed. Walking into the room, I thought, “I’m not going to like it here.”

Challenging My Own Assumptions

One of our first team tasks was building towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows. I was put in a group with a girl named Liv. Before we even spoke, I’d made assumptions about what she’d be like. But once we started talking, I realised how wrong I was—she was genuinely lovely. That was a huge turning point. I realised if I’d been that wrong about Liv, I was probably wrong about everyone else, too. So I started opening up and for the first time in a long while, I felt like I belonged.

Building Real Confidence

The biggest change in me has been my confidence. I used to retreat into myself in social situations. But working together on our community project—turning a derelict garden into a green space for local elderly residents—proved to me what I could achieve, especially when working as a team.

Now, I can go out, say hello to people and start conversations without overthinking it. That might sound small to most people, but for me, it’s massive.

Looking Ahead

Before joining The King’s Trust, I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to take. Now, I’m seriously thinking about going to university to train as a teacher.

This programme showed me how rewarding it can be to support and help young people and that’s something I’d love to do in the future.

Even if my plans change, I still feel much more positive about what comes next because I know I have options and I know I’m capable of achieving them.

Trinity’s Advice

“If you’re feeling nervous, just give it a chance. You don’t have to be the most confident person in the room and you don’t have to know anyone. I nearly didn’t go and I could have missed out on one of the best experiences of my life.”
