Double Gold Success At RHS Awards

We were delighted to celebrate double gold success for two of our community growing projects at the recent RHS North West In Bloom Awards.
Both Grow Speke in South Liverpool and Grow Blackpool received the prestigious 5-star ‘Outstanding’ award at the RHS North West In Bloom Awards! Grow Blackpool was also named Best Community Garden In The North West.
This incredible recognition is so well-deserved. A huge thank you to all the dedicated staff and volunteers whose hard work creates and maintains these amazing green spaces. These much loved green spaces have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of our local communities.
Grow Speke
Grow Speke is a community hub in Speke, South Liverpool.
It is run as a partnership project between Groundwork and South Liverpool Homes.
Previously a piece of unloved wasteland that attracted anti-social behaviour, it is now a vibrant community garden and food growing hub. It is also a thriving place where people from the local community can make new friends, learn new skills and improve their own health and wellbeing. The local people who regularly come to volunteer benefit for their own physical and mental health reasons as well as giving back to the community.
The site hosts a variety of activities throughout the week that are accessible and free to all. These include; food growing, horticulture/gardening, cooking, education and training, health and wellbeing, arts and crafts and learning about nature conservation and biodiversity. We engage with people of all ages and abilities and everyone is welcome.

Grow Blackpool
Grow Blackpool is a community growing project and hosts volunteering sessions three times a week.
It’s free and everyone is welcome to join the group. You can learn how to grow your own fruit and vegetables, even if you don’t have a garden or much space. You’ll meet new people and become more active. This will help you to feel healthier and more confident about yourself.
There are two polytunnels, raised beds and a pizza oven on site. We often cook and eat some of the food we grow on site. Some of which is also taken home by our volunteers.
You don’t need to know anything about gardening to get involved and all the equipment and refreshments are provided. All you need to bring are your own gardening gloves, a mug for break time and yourself.
We’re a friendly bunch. So just drop in during one of our volunteering sessions and ask for Clare, Angela or Tom. There’s no pressure. We’ll show you around the garden, have a chat and you can decide if its the right thing for you.
