Use Your Experience to Make a Local Difference
At Groundwork Northamptonshire, we believe in the power of local people to lead local change. Our projects help young people thrive, protect and restore green spaces, and bring communities together across the county.
Our mission is simple: to strengthen communities, support families and individuals, and reduce pressure on public services – particularly health and social care – through practical, local action.
We do this by delivering hands-on projects that improve wellbeing, create opportunity, and build resilience.
We’re looking for new trustees to join our board – and that could mean you.

What is a trustee?

Trustees are volunteers who help guide and govern a charity. They support the leadership team, contribute to strategic decisions, and ensure the charity stays true to its mission, values and goals.
In practice, that means:

  • Attending board meetings (usually four per year)
  • Reading papers and asking good questions
  • Supporting key decisions and direction
  • Championing the charity in your networks

You won’t be responsible for day-to-day operations – but your insight, ideas and oversight will help make sure we’re doing the right things, in the right way, for the people and places that need it most.

Who can be a trustee?

There’s no one type of trustee – and we actively welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ages and experiences.
You don’t need to have been a trustee before.
You don’t need a background in finance or law (though those skills are welcome too).
You do need to care about local communities, be willing to listen and learn, and have a few hours a month to give.

What is the commitment?

We know life is busy – and we’ve designed the role to fit around work, family and other priorities.
Time commitment:

  • Around 4–6 hours per month
  • Quarterly board meetings (some online, some in-person in Northamptonshire)
  • Occasional strategy sessions or informal check-ins
  • Optional opportunities to visit our projects or join working groups

We’ll provide a full induction and ongoing support. If you’re new to trusteeship, we’ll guide you through it.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Just the interest, the commitment – and the willingness to be part of something bigger. Together, we can create stronger communities, greener spaces and brighter futures. Become a trustee. Help lead local change.
