One course kicked started my career: Ian’s story

Posted on 12 May 2017

Ian volunteered on one of Groundwork’s employment courses to improve his employability and gain some experience, and he came away with a new career.

“Before the course I was working in warehouses for quite a number of years. I got offered to do the Green Team course through the job centre”

Ian thought it would be a good chance to gain qualifications and build up some more experience, as he’d worked in hard and soft landscaping when he was younger.

“It was a great course, I found out that I really enjoyed gardening and wanted to get back into it.”

“Groundwork asked me at the time if a job became available, would I be interested? I said yes. Then a few months later they had a job opportunity and remembered me. I jumped at the chance.

“It’s a career for life now; I’d like to get a lot of experience, hopefully enough to train others.”

Ian now works for Groundwork East as a Landscaping Assistant in the Project Implementation Team (PIT).
