Thriving Community Buildings

Groundwork Suffolk works with Suffolk Coastal District Council and Waveney District Council to develop strong, proud, caring and supportive communities that value their rural and coastal heritage.

Communities like this need accessible and warm community facilities to support health and wellbeing activities and increase social inclusion and community cohesion: Thriving Community Buildings.

This innovative project offers communities in Suffolk Coastal and Waveney assistance to build resilience through their community buildings. The project is being delivered by Groundwork Suffolk with funding from the East Suffolk Partnership and Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The project offers support on the following areas in one package:

  • Energy management and monitoring
  • Resource efficiency
  • Renewable energy
  • Emergency planning and resilience
  • Health and safety
  • Governance, trustees and management
  • Safeguarding
  • Financial management accounting
  • Business planning and fundraising strategies
  • Employment of staff and volunteers
  • Biodiversity and access to wildlife

Between 2016 and 2018 Groundwork will undertake 20 on-site ‘thrivability audits’ to identify opportunities for communities to make improvements in the above support areas. 15 additional communities will receive telephone and email ad-hoc ‘thrivability support plans’ to progress existing ideas.

All of this support provides communities with the knowledge, tools and support needed to improve their long term sustainability. The approach is flexible to meet each community’s needs.

If your community has a building that you think could benefit from this programme, please contact Jamie Murphy on jamie.murphy@groundwork.org.uk or 01473 350370.
