Joanna Smith

I am a Chief information Officer (CIO) and have been working in the Healthcare industry for over 10 years, prior to that I worked in global pharmaceutical companies and was lucky enough to travel extensively and work with many cultures. Most of my work is supporting the NHS and I am currently working with an urgent care and 111 provider as well a large global technology business. As CIO my role is to provide excellent IT solutions and services to organisations in order that they can deliver on their mission and vision, and core objectives.
Outside of work I am a lover of nature, animals green spaces. I have two dogs and four cats, as well as tropical fish and a Koi pond. I am very lucky that my garden leads straight into woodland fields. The wood is particularly beautiful in spring when it fills with bluebells. The dogs love it.
I am of an age now where I am looking for a change of career, one that provides me more variety and flexibility, hence the two part time roles. I have also lived in Hertfordshire all my life and have enjoyed holidays in Norfolk and Suffolk, so the opportunity to support Groundwork East as a Trustee was a perfect match. I hope I can bring the benefit of my many years in large corporations, as well as the public and not for profits sectors, to help GWE deliver on its purpose and go from strength to strength.
Joanna Smith became a Trustee for Groundwork East in December 2025.
Joanna sits on the Finance, Audit & Risk Subcommittee.
