Get Outdoors, Get Active, Give Back: River Colne Volunteer Day
Residents are being invited to step into nature, learn new skills and make a real difference to one of Watford’s most valuable natural habitats at a special River Colne Volunteer Day this September.
Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or simply curious about how you can help local wildlife, there is something for everyone. Volunteers can choose from a range of hands-on activities designed to support the health and future of the River Colne, a rare and important chalk stream habitat.
We are calling on outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers and community-minded residents to join a fun and rewarding afternoon of conservation activities.
WHERE: Oxhey Park, Watford
WHEN: Saturday 12 September
The afternoon is split into different activities, all free, and you can book onto as many as you like:
Tree Maintenance
(12:30pm – 1:45pm)
Help maintain river berms by trimming local trees and creating brushwood bundles that support river restoration work.
Berm Maintenance
(2pm – 3:15pm)
Pull on your wellies and join volunteers in the river to strengthen the berms that help provide the river with shape, stability and habitat for wildlife.
Riverfly Survey Demonstration
(3:30pm – 4:30pm)
Discover the fascinating world of freshwater insects and learn how Riverfly surveys help monitor river health. Attendees will also hear about future opportunities to become a trained Riverfly surveyor
All equipment will be provided. Participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor activities.
This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get outdoors, meet like-minded residents and play an active role in protecting the River Colne. Whether you can spare an hour or the whole afternoon, your support will help create a lasting legacy for this special river.
