The River Lea conservation

Groundwork East is involved in numerous ways along the River Lea, supporting in management and conservation activities.
The River Lea has its source in Luton, before running through Hertfordshire and into London, joining up with the Thames. The Lea is a chalk stream, a rare form of watercourse, meaning it is of high priority to protect and restore.
Groundwork East hosts the Luton Lea Catchment Partnership, which brings together organisations with an interest in the River, to coordinate efforts to manage, protect and restore the River and it’s surrounding habitats. Partners include Local Authorities, water companies and other charities, encompassing a wide array of projects and expertise.
Groundwork East also runs several of our own projects along the river, focusing on conservation and education themes.
