Home Grown for funders

What is Home Grown?
In 2021 we launched Home Grown as an online course designed to support people during the pandemic. Since then, nearly 4000 people have joined us to grow their own fruits and vegetables at home. Groundwork have sent families and care home residents their very Home Grown packs, which include:
- Tools
- Seeds
- Pots
- Gloves
- Labels
- Grow bags
Those involved also have access to free digital materials, including ‘how to’ videos, recipes and craft activities, and participants can share tips and photos with others on our private ‘Home Grown’ Facebook group.
Why do we need Home Grown?
Growing your own fruit and vegetables can be a rewarding way to spend time outdoors, build confidence and connect with where food comes from. At a time when many of us are feeling pressure from rising living costs, and interest in sustainable living is growing, having the skills and knowledge to grow at home can make a real difference.
We believe access to practical information and support should be straightforward and inclusive. That’s why we provide clear guidance for all of our Home Growers, regardless of age, experience or available space, to start growing, whether on a windowsill, in a garden or as part of a shared community space.

Home Grown brought residents together, reducing isolation, increasing social activities, and generally resulting in residents using our gardens more and increasing social interaction

How can you help?
We want to continue bringing the benefits of Home Grown to as many people as possible, and for the 2026 growing season we’re looking for funding and sponsorship to make sure the programme is always free for people that want to take part:
- You can order packs for your service users or make a donation to cover the cost of packs for people in your communities:
- 10 person pack for a group is £150
- Individual pack for a household £30
How you can get involved:
Donations of materials for growing packs such as seeds, tools and gardening gloves are also very welcome, as is your time if you can help us put packs together
