Christopher and his wife Diana have managed to save over £350 on their water bill, with the help of the Green Doctor – an energy-efficiency expert that visited them at their home in Bardney, Lincolnshire.

The Green Doctor service is provided by regional charity Groundwork Five Counties, which has recently expanded into Lincolnshire. It is fully funded by the national Energy Redress Scheme, making all aspects of the service free of charge.

Groundwork is collaborating with other local charities and organisations, to provide support to those who need it most. This includes St Barnabas Hospice, a charity that gives vital support to those suffering with life-limiting conditions.

Christopher says: “I was diagnosed with COPD some time ago. St Barnabas has been helping me and referred us to the Green Doctor for energy support and financial advice.

“Ben visited us at home early November, he gave us advice on how to get the most out of our energy usage by using the right boiler and heating settings, and other small changes to our day-to-day.

“He also looked at our utility bills and immediately noticed that because of my condition, we are eligible for a 50% discount with Anglian Water. This has saved us £350 on our water bill, which is a massive help! He also helped us apply for a reduction in council tax and has been following up to make sure we’re getting on well with everything.”

Christopher’s wife Diana adds: “We are very grateful to Ben, he has been fantastic and saved us a lot of money. We highly recommend getting a Green Doctor visit, it’s all completely free and such a great service.”

Green Doctor Ben says: “During a home visit, we give behavioural advice and install free energy-saving measures like LED light bulbs, radiator foil and draught-proofing – all of these little things can save a lot over the year.

“We’ll look at utility bills and tariffs, the household’s energy usage, and explore potential grants and benefits. People often aren’t aware of discounts that their utility companies offer to those who match their criteria.

“I’m so pleased Christopher and Diana were able to save £350 with one simple phone call, it’s a great result.”

The Green Doctor service has no eligibility criteria, it is available to people of any age and background, whether they own their home, rent, or are a council or social housing tenant.
