Volunteering

It’s no secret that volunteering is a great pastime and we have plenty of opportunities to get stuck in. Learn outdoor skills from our skilled environment team, and learn to love nature even more.

It’s a great way to meet people and boost your mental health, all while giving back by looking after the outdoor spaces for you and others in your community to enjoy.

Please note in some instances, the work location changes and will be confirmed with you if you sign up.

Take a look below at our upcoming volunteering days.

Invasive species removal at Minorca Woodland, Swepstone
Thursdays 26 June & 10 July 2025, 10am – 1pm

The area has become overrun with invasive Himalayan Basam, which smothers our native wildlife and grows up to 7ft! Can you help us on one or both days to restore balance?

Unlike many other alien species it is not poisonous and not difficult to deal with, but does need to be pulled up. We can use all the (wo)manpower we can get!

Parking on National Forest land opposite Measham Lodge, Gallows Lane, Measham, DE12 7HA – this is a padlocked car park and we will have the key.

Come in study footwear, wear trousers and a long sleeved top to prevent nettle sting, and bring a drink. If you have work gloves bring them, if not they can be supplied.

Butterfly surveys at Minorca Woodland, Swepstone

We are setting up a new butterfly transect at Minorca Woodland in Swepstone (near Swadlincote) and need local volunteers to help us record the butterflies we spot on a regular basis.

We have planned the route and found a green hairstreak butterfly, which is not common in the area, so it’s promising to be a very interesting exercise!

We will provide training, including tips on identification.

Surveys will take place every four weeks, with dates and times yet to be confirmed but you can already sign up!

Connecting with nature

We host a series of outdoor activities across the East Midlands, for children and adults.

As a volunteer you can support with delivering sessions, prepping materials, and promoting our events. This experience is great for anyone who is looking to do something meaningful in their own community.

Partner with us

We can’t do the amazing work we do alone. It’s why we’re always happy to partner with businesses who help facilitate our work, and enhance our impact across the region. Find out more about how we can change places and lives together.
