Community Allotments
Transforming space into allotments for the whole community.
Groundwork NI transforms spaces into green spaces for the whole community.
We run gardening sessions and events across our green spaces, teaching people gardening skills, how to grow vegetables and fruit, and teaching people about the benefits of being outdoors and eating healthily. These spaces are a fantastic opportunity for communities to connect with nature, food and each other.
It is commonly recognised now that outdoor spaces can help reduce negative environmental impacts by:
- Promoting mental health.
- Reducing antisocial behaviour.
- Promoting sustainable horticulture.
- Providing safe places.
- Connecting people to their community.
Meanwhile Gardens
We have four community Meanwhile Gardens situated in North, South, and East Belfast that we manage alongside volunteers from the local community. Groups can visit to be inspired or to attend training sessions, or we can deliver training on-site at their garden.
- Connswater: On the corner of Newtonards Rd. and Connswater S.
- Glenbryn: Tucked behind the Jolly Roger Complex on Alliance Rd.
- Hydebank: Located on the grounds of Hydebank Wood College, this garden is themed around mental and emotional wellbeing.
- Shankill: On the Corner of Shankill Rd. and Bellvue St.
Northern Allotments
Our Northern Allotments lie on space that has been earmarked for future development but until then, Groundwork NI creates an attractive and accessible growing space for people living locally. Funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA).
We support projects in the Northern Trust area from Ballymena to Bushmills, please get in touch if you would like you would like support, guidance and advice in your local community green space.
We welcome visitors, volunteers, new and seasoned gardeners as well as organisations and companies who would like to get involved.
