Volunteer Session Support

Looking for a rewarding opportunity where your skills and experience can help others thrive?

At Groundwork, our mission is clear: to empower people to build brighter futures. We do this by helping people to boost their confidence, develop essential skills, enhance their wellbeing and improve their employability.

We’re looking for passionate volunteers to join our support team and help us deliver this vital mission every day in Wigan and Leigh.

About the Role:

Join Groundwork CLM as a Volunteer Session Support Team member and you can play a vital role in transforming lives across our community.

Our programmes are designed to help individuals of all ages to develop essential literacy, language, numeracy, and digital skills, raise their aspirations and build the resilience needed to get into employment or training and thrive.

Your support will directly empower people to overcome barriers, achieve their goals and contribute positively to the local economy and their community.

About you:

You don’t need to have any formal qualifications to apply – just a willingness to learn and attend any training. If you have a lived or working experience of supporting others, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support & Mentor: Work alongside Groundwork staff to deliver engaging, team-based programmes. You’ll provide invaluable one-to-one mentoring, guiding participants as they achieve their personal and professional goals.
  • Skill Development: Help individuals enhance critical skills like literacy, language, numeracy and digital proficiency, tailored to their needs.
  • Session Delivery: Assist in the delivery of dynamic learning sessions, helping to track and celebrate the progress of learners.
  • Resource Preparation: Support Team Leaders in preparing vital resources that make sessions effective and engaging.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Boost Your CV: You’ll develop highly sought-after skills in mentoring, training support, communication and digital literacy. This type of practical experience stands out to potential employers.
  • Personal Growth: You’ll experience the immense satisfaction of making a real difference. It will also help you build your confidence, enhance your leadership abilities and gain a deeper understanding of community development.
  • Networking Opportunities: You’ll expand your professional and personal network by connecting with Groundwork staff, other dedicated volunteers and community partners.
  • Training & Support: You’ll receive a comprehensive induction, ongoing one-to-one support from your line manager and access to relevant training to enhance your skills and personal development.
  • Reimbursement: All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred during your volunteering will be reimbursed with receipts.

Your Commitment:

  • Flexible Availability: We appreciate that your time is valuable. We can offer flexible volunteering opportunities during school hours or to suit your commitments. We can have a chat about what works best for both of us.
  • DBS Check: A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this role, which Groundwork CLM will cover the cost for.
  • Basic Expectations: Participate in an induction, attend required training, complete timesheets and communicate regularly with your line manager.
