The Big Balsam Bash is back for its third year! This time around we’re rallying all of our partners together for four weeks of intense action where we unite to tackle Himalayan Balsam, an invasive species causing unrest to our native plants and wildlife.

A number of charities and community groups have already signed up to organise public and private events during the 22nd May – 18th June 2023, can you get involved too?

Details of how to support this campaign are listed below:

1. Join in!

The easiest way to get involved in the Big Balsam Bash is to join an event which is being hosted by Groundwork or one of the campaign partners.

For full details of the events taking place as part of the campaign, please visit the link below:

2. Host a Balsam Bashing event

Balsam bashing is a fairly safe and family friendly activity that can be undertaken with minimal planning and equipment.

Whether you’re a Friends Of Group or several colleagues who want to improve the local environment, balsam bashing if the perfect activity!

If you are planning to host an event which the general public can join, providing you have a risk assessment and public liability insurance we can help promote this for you.

Simply email and we’ll list it on the events area of our website.

If you are hosting your own event, please make sure you track your results, monitoring helps us track our progress year on year.

3. Share

We’re asking all our campaign partners and supporters to shout about the campaign on social media during the 22nd May – 18th June using the hashtag #bigbalsambash

Raising awareness about the issues caused by Himalayan Balsam and encouraging others to take part in a balsam bashing event is extremely valuable, so please consider sharing these posts on your accounts.
