Groundwork takes practical action to create a fair and green future in which people, places, and nature thrive.

We support local communities and businesses to build capacity and resilience as this is vital if we are to tackle hardship, achieve a just transition to net-zero and help nature recover in a way that reduces inequality and leads to better work and healthier, happier lives.

Creating green jobs

The ‘Love my River’ project connects communities with their local rivers to help them to protect and monitor biodiversity. Jake joined the project from university and has used it as a springboard to get the experience he needs in ecology to follow his dream to become a wildlife documentary filmmaker. Groundwork supports people into thousands of green jobs like this every year, helping to create a better and greener future for people and communities across the UK.

Building strong communities

Grozone is a community garden and wildlife project in Cheshire and a focal point for local people. It’s an incredible place for both mind and body, where you can learn new skills, meet new people and generally improve your health and wellbeing in a friendly and welcoming outdoor environment. In this short film, Dave talks about what Grozone means to him and why he loves being a regular volunteer.

Our impact

Making a difference isn’t just our goal, it’s the very reason we exist. We are changing places and changing lives every day and are extremely proud of the positive impact that our work has. In the last year:
