Community Worker
Job Summary
You’ll run community hubs and facilities—gardens, allotments, centres—where people come together to take practical action on social and environmental challenges. You’ll organise volunteering activities, play sessions, and events that build social networks and boost wellbeing. You’ll help communities access nature more equitably, lead their own climate action, and use green spaces to improve physical and mental health. Beyond the doing—the planting, the sessions, the projects—you’re giving people the tools and confidence to shape their own neighbourhoods and amplifying voices that are seldom heard.
This is transformation at grassroots level. You’ll witness communities discovering their own power, developing skills, growing in confidence, and creating tangible improvements to where they live. Your work builds social resilience whilst addressing environmental challenges—often simultaneously. Every project you support generates multiple benefits: tackling climate change whilst building community spirit, creating greener spaces whilst boosting wellbeing.
What we’re looking for: Strong listening skills, genuine belief in community power, and the ability to facilitate rather than dictate. If you’re energised by collaboration, committed to environmental and social justice, and ready to help communities shape their own sustainable futures, join Groundwork and be part of creating lasting change from the ground up.
