Our legacy
Starting in 2016, and originally funded from the carrier bag charge, Bags of Help supported thousands of community organisations. In this time we’ve supported more than 6,000 schools, over 2,000 sports teams, 2,300 Brownies, Guides, Rainbows, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Rangers groups and 1,400 elderly and vulnerable groups.
In August 2017 Tesco replaced single use carrier bags with new Bags for Life made from 94% recyclable plastic, to help reduce bag use even further.
In July 2023 the programme changed to Tesco Stronger Starts, but it is still supporting good causes in your local area.
About Groundwork
Tesco Bags of Help is administered by Groundwork. We are a federation of charities working nationally and locally to transform lives in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities.
We’re passionate about creating a future where every neighbourhood is vibrant and green, every community is strong and able to shape its own destiny and no-one is held back by their background or circumstances.
