Wellies in the Woods: Mandie’s Story
Mandie has recently started attending Wellies in the Woods sessions with her two daughters aged three and five.
Mandie says:
“I first heard about Wellies in the Woods on Facebook. I loved that it was outdoors and that it was free. The sessions mean for an hour and a half or more the kids can come out, meet new friends, get outside. I then get ideas about what I can do in my own time.
“I’ve definitely seen changes in my children since they have been joining the sessions – they are a lot calmer when they’re outdoors! Wellies in the Woods teaches them about outdoor life and they are willing to be more involved in nature, forage around and not be afraid of picking up bugs or getting their fingernails dirty. My daughters love muddy puddles! It also improves their motor skills.
“I’ve been telling everyone about this and to come and experience and give it a try. It’s free so what do you have to lose?
“My eldest daughter enjoyed a session recently where they made items out of clay. She made Olaf from Frozen and it was so well done. I sent photos to my family and it’s still on the ledge in my kitchen.

There’s a lot to learn from being outdoors and I don’t think children are outdoors enough, especially in England with the weather so changeable. When I have the chance for the children to be outdoors – I’d rather do that.
