Groundwork runs courses that introduce families to the outdoors as a learning environment, and as a place to improve their health and well-being.

Why do we run these courses?

Finding the time to play outdoors with children can be challenging in the busy lives of parents. This course teaches parents how to confidently play with their young children outdoors for little or no cost. Parents and children will be supported to manage risk when playing in local green spaces such as parks and woodlands.

Course structure

Delivered by a member of Groundwork’s Environmental Education team, the courses normally run as a 10 week programme and the weekly sessions can accommodate up to 10 families (20 participants). Suited for children up to five years.

Excellent session run by two lovely ladies – thank you.

We wouldn’t have played outside in the winter before the course.

Practitioner training

Groundwork can also train practitioners to run their own Wellies in the Woods courses, get in touch to find out more, and arrange training.

Amazing. Was really brought to life and fun to do. Learnt so much from it to better my practice.

A marvelous insight in to outdoor activities using the best possible stimulus and focus – mother nature, itself!

Very informative and inspiring. So good to have a mix of background/theory and practical. Great to have resources to take away too. Really enjoyable – very good ideas and activities to do.

Good range of activities, lots of new ideas when doing planning for sessions. Lots of knowledge and benefits of outdoor play in natural settings. So many new ideas.
