Support Groundwork’s Wellies in the Woods
Wellies in the Woods brings beloved story books to life in nature across the UK – providing a safe haven where families can connect, learn and grow together.
Your donation helps us create a greener and fairer future. Every penny given to our Wellies in the Woods programme goes to help give children a better start in life.
Being outdoors brings a great deal of joy to children with 85% saying it makes them ‘very happy’. Despite this, the opportunities for this are sadly dwindling with only 27% of children regularly playing outside near their homes.
In the wake of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, 30% of five year-olds are falling behind their expected reading levels and 20% are behind on their communication and language skills.
Wellies in the Woods provides a solution to both these issues.
Groundwork wants all children to have the opportunity to develop their literacy skills before beginning their formal schooling and to grow up enjoying the outdoors and respecting nature and the environment.
By not only bettering children’s literacy skills, but providing opportunities to reap the benefit of being outdoors, improving their health and wellbeing in an environment where getting muddy isn’t only allowed – it’s encouraged!

A donation from you can make this a reality.
