Argie’s Coffee is an independently owned, Welsh based Coffee Distributor offering an extensive range of beverage products. The company supplies coffee machines, vending machines, coffee shop equipment, barista supplies, barista training and offer a design and build service.

As experts from bean to machine, they supply the public sector, catering trade and general public with delicious coffees, teas and other ingredients from their base in Bridgend.

The company decided to gain Green Dragon certification, when they were required to obtain a UKAS accredited Environmental Standard as part of the tender process.  Argies Coffee found that the Green Dragon suited them perfectly, particularly because it is split into five ‘Levels’.  This allowed the company to gain a certification that reflected the size of the company and its impact on the environment.

Joanna Mordecai of Argies Coffee explained,

the Green Dragon Environmental Standard provided us with a relatively simple way of obtaining an environmental management standard. Following the standard ensures we are working against the required legislation and that our business is managed to ensure the protection of the environment.  Since the implementation of Green Dragon, we have been awarded several tenders

Through working to Green Dragon, the company has reduced its water and energy use and developed some interesting new initiatives;

  • approaching Fare Share who can accept products past their BBE date which ensures the waste no longer goes to landfill
  • as part of setting up new product lines the company now looks at opportunities to reduce environmental impact such as using recycled packaging and vegetable-based inks
  • to offset the carbon produced Argies have planted 4 broad leaf trees this year as part of the Carbon Footprint initiative (

Within the next year they hope to become a Carbon Neutral Company.

Argies Coffee has made fantastic achievements and Groundwork Wales was pleased to certify them against the Green Dragon for the second year running.
